CL Results – R2 First Leg

CL Purple Stars

Round 2: “The Knockout Playoffs”

Smash & Grab #12 50½ – 50½ The Phenoms #5
The BFFA-following public around the world may have expected a large difference in performance from the team that nearly byed to the QFs and the team that were lucky to escape elimination. However, we got an incredibly exciting set-up for the second leg when Tarkowski finished the gameweek on Monday night with 8½ and brought it off the bench to potentially with the game for Smash. Unfortunately for Smash & Grab, they made two substitutions, but the other (Gravenberch) added his yellow card for a total of -1.

Gloopy Yarbles #11 65 – 73 Shams Army #6
As sometimes happens, the second-best team of the weekend found themselves facing insurmountable odds. Despite a heroic effort by the Yarbles, they couldn’t best the Champion of Champions. A couple of zeroes, a one, a deuce and a tree-fiddy held Gloopy from producing an even more impressive score. That said, Shams Army could’ve put up an even more impressive score too; they fielded five players scoring 3½ and less (including Konate’s -½), but somehow outshone the CL Holders. I say “somehow”, we know how – four players with double figures, and they didn’t even need their topscoring player (Harvey Barnes, 17½).

Atletico Topo Chico #10 31½ – 47½ Mighty Fine #7
ATC have an uphill challenge to get through next week. Goals from Morgan Gibbs-White and Pedro Neto were perfectly cancelled out by Chalobah and Tyreek Mitchell. The rest of the Mighty Fine starting XI outperformed their opponents, and a goal from Richarlison may have put the fixture beyond any hopes of an ATC comeback.

All Star Gunners #9 46 – 45 Peltier #8
Fantasy football is an unfair game sometimes. Those that put their faith in a meritocracy are often surprised, if not devastated. Thankfully, nothing that dramatic happened to Peltier this weekend, however, spare a thought for teams such as them that score more goals, yet somehow lose their matchups. Tavernier and Jimenez both found the net for Peltier, whilst ASG were goalless… until the 29th minute of the final game of the weekend. Despite Everton playing with 10 men, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall managed to score for Everton, the only goal of the game, and earned 11 matchpoints. Playing in the same match, Bruno and Diallo could only manage 10 points combined, and that one point deficit is now the margin that they will be trying to recover next weekend away at Selhurst Park.

From Round 3 the highest-ranked teams will face the lowest-ranked teams (rankings decided by the Group Stage positions). R3 is also two legs – GW15 & GW16.

Round 4 is the Semi-Finals.
Again, the highest-ranked team will play the lowest-ranked remaining side.
SF also two legs, beginning after the new year – GWs 22 & 23

And then the Final takes place in Gameweek 25. One leg – No replay if drawn.

Enjoy.
