Day 1 / 3

There was a Friday kick-off for this season’s Champions League Final. Leeds and Forest got the ball rolling, and both finalists immediately felt the joy of getting early points on the board from Brendon Aaronson (4 FPts – 1x KP, 1x CS, 1x TkW). However, with the second half less than four minutes old, Calvert-Lewin re-directed the ball off the badge and into the Forest net. 3-0 Leeds, 1-0 DBT.

Day 2 / 3

The bulk of the Final was spread over the Saturday’s fixtures with Arsenal -v- Sunderland taking centre stage. De Bruyne Trousers benched Eze and Jesus (worth 1½ & 3), where they remained, but smartly fielded Timber (9 FPts) and Trossard (8½ FPts) with their respective clean sheets. Arsenal had ten shots-on-target according to FanTrax, and Trossard’s assisted four of them. The pass to Zubimendi in the 43rd-minute became a goal assist and caused Roefs (The Phenoms) to lose his clean sheet. Two more Arsenal goals resulted in Roefs scoring goose-egg, both scored by Viktor Gyökeres (also The Phenoms). In his 29 minutes he generated two goals and two SoT’s, which would later make him the Man of the Match in this season’s Final.

The Phenoms collected big scores across the day from Bryan Mbuemo, 12:30 ko (9½ FPts, 1 goal), Crysencio Summerville, 15:00 ko (11½, 1 goal) and Igor Thiago, 17:30 ko (6 FPts, 1 goal). 26 matchpoints from five goals rocketed The Phenoms into a 12-point lead, with eight players left to appear – three for The Phenoms, five for DBT. However, as Munoz and Szoboszlai were both starting for both teams, that meant that The Phenoms only had one player remaining who could be a difference-maker – Ismaila Sarr -while De Bruyne Trousers had three – Mitoma, Donnarumma and Ekitiké…

Day 3 / 3

The first game of the day saw Crystal Palace take three points from The Seagulls in a 1-0 away win near the south coast. The only goal of the game came from The Phenoms’ Ismaila Sarr. On the hour mark, Evann Guessand found Sarr unmarked in front of the D. Sarr dribbled the ball into the box and fired home, taking a deflection off Verbruggen’s head, and (in retrospect) won the game for both Palace and The Phenoms.

In the final game of the Final, Donnarumma and Ekitiké may have faced each other on the park, but together they were trying to create a shock turnaround for the Premier League’s De Bruyne Trousers. They required 20 points to win the trophy. Just as Roefs and Gyökeres had clashed for The Phenoms the day before, DBT needed goals at the expense of his goalkeeper’s clean sheet. Unforunately for them, Donnarumma only conceded the one, and it went the way of their shared possession – Dominik Szoboszlai – from a stunning free-kick. Nice. Donnarumma made a few saves, three to be exact, but despite the high drama at Anfield, the Champions League Final petered out and The Phenoms became the new Champions League Champions!

Subs: At the final whistle, neither team made any substitutions, and so…
