Season 12 – GW29

NINE gameweeks left – that’s one game against each league opponent for anyone not counting.
It’s also nine weeks of Best-ish competition, five rounds of BFFA Cup, and 211 title-deciders. It’s all-against-all one more time and every game is important. No Playoffs, no postseason, no CL qualifiers. Just straight-up League and Cup sprint finishes. Welcome to the Run-In.

Incredibly, nine of our twenty games were won by teams that had scored less goals, proving that (unlike Whose Line Is It Anyway?) it really is the points that matter. And over in the Dynasty side-game, Frimpong PingPong are on the verge of clinching Season Two with a lot of time still remaining in the season.

Premier League

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
• Wives Fave continue as favourites for the title with win over ATC. Now 11 points above fourth place, looking solid for a top three finish.
• DBT keep pace with the league leaders with their fourth win over Beyer this season.
• Smash prevent Spray from rising to seventh this week. Joao Pedro’s hat-trick accounted for 22.5 of Spray’s 24.5 points.

🙅 Whitewash Watch 🔎 After GW29:
De Bruyne Trousers 4-0 vs. Beyer Neverleusen; DBT are 7-1 against Beyer/Bigger all-time.

The Run-in

It’s going to be a difficult start to the Final Nine for Mighty Fine; they have to go to war against the top two and hopefully come away with some points for their efforts. Meanwhile, just behind them, both Gloopy and El Dude Bros have very easy games in the next two. Although El Dude will be expected to win both of those games, they will not be expected to get many (if any) points from the final two, so will need to do some damage early on.

Hung Like a Bony will attempt to regain some ground in GWs 30 & 31 as they attempt to complete back-to-back whitewashes, over Beyer Neverleusen and then De Bruyne Trousers. DBT (2nd) are much stronger than they were earlier in the season; they have won six of their last seven if proof was needed. That loss was to the only team above them – Wives Fave. They won’t meet again until GW35, at which point the league may look very different.

🫣 Next week’s Ones to Watch:
De Bruyne Trousers -v- Mighty Fine, 2nd v 4th
GW21: DBT 45 – 57 Mighty
DBT fighting to regain their place at the top of the ladder (lost in GW2), while Mighty Fine are trying to get back in the money places and, subsequentially, attack DBT’s second place position.

🙅 Whitewash Watch 🔎 Before GW30:
Hung Like A Bony 3-0 vs. Beyer Neverleusen; Hung up 6-1 all-time vs BtB/BN
Mighty Fine 3-0 vs. De Bruyne Trousers; DBT knocked Mighty out of the BFFA Cup (both legs if their QF), but Mighty have taken all nine points from their games in the PL so far this season.

Form:

Championship

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
• Top two win, but Prelim lose ground in third.
• Preliminary Version fall just 2½ points short in the season’s third highest-scoring game of the season. They are the third team to score over 70 fantasy points and lose to a better team.
• Uncle Monty deal a big blow to ASG’s promotion hopes, but their half-point win wasn’t enough to pull them level with seventh; Peltier also improve with a narrow win of their own.

🙅 Whitewash Watch 🔎 After GW29:
The Phenoms 4-0 vs. Alleviate the Tedium; Phenoms have won all six since the 41-41 draw in S11, GW20 (Lge 1).

The Run-in

Barons only face bottom-half teams in the next five games. They’ve won 11 of the 15 previous matches against those teams, winning all three against Gnonto Seed and Uncle Monty. All Star Gunners will be the toughest of the five; ASG beat Barons in GWs 4 & 13.

Slots Fired have a good opportunity to improve on their fourth place as they won’t play any of the top three until GW34. The Phenoms will want to continue their dominance of Gnonto Seed next week before a difficult game against Prelim.

🫣 Next week’s One to Watch:
Sporting Wicker Park -v- All Star Gunners, 5th v 6th
GW21: SWP 58 – 66 ASG
In a week where the top-half sides play bottom-half teams, we can focus on the two in the middle. Straddling the divide they are both simultaneously looking up at a promotion place and watching the teams below them snapping at their heels. ASG won this last time, but this one could prove all-important in deciding which battle they will be fighting at the end of the season. The winner will have a fair shot at the top three, the loser will have to watch the others pull away.

🙅 Whitewash Watch 🔎 Before GW30:
The Phenoms 3-0 vs. Gnonto Seed – another Championship & Dynasty double header. Phenoms are 3-0 in the BFFA, Seed (aka Wonder Struijk) are 2-1 in the keeper league.

Form:

League One

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
• Exciting times at the top of the league as Bigger than Brolin topscore with 81 and catch up with WDB. The former Premier League side (who were never relegated but defaulted to the third tier) take a big step towards promotion and possibly another title.
• Whiskey De Bruyne might feel hard done by after they outscored Jaysokker 3-1 on Goals Scored & 6-1 on SoT’s (Semenyo scored with Jaysokker’s only shot-on-target), but 18 Key Passes for the underdogs helped their survival bid while all the other bottom-half teams faultered.
• AFC Chester get a third consecutive win against Thrillhaus, winning by a point, and Stafford Stallions get their fourth straight over their opponents Toastenham Hankdog.

🙅 Whitewash Watch 🔎 After GW29:
Stafford Stallions 4-0 vs. Toastenham Hotdog; first season in same league

The Run-in

GoFYS get an easy start to the Final Nine by beginning with games against the bottom two, before being thrown roughly to the lions in GWs 32 & 33.

Conversely, Stafford Stallions, who are battling to catch the top two, have a difficult approach, but can make significant progress if they can beat their targets in back-to-back weeks coming up immediately. That will be followed by AFC Chester and then the bottom three.

Toastenham Hankdog have a mixed bag over the next five – games against the bottom three sandwiched between hard games against the top two. However, with WDB suffering from a temporary bad spell of form, now might be the best time to meet them…

🫣 Next week’s One to Watch:
Stafford Stallions -v- Bigger than Brolin – 3rd v 2nd
GW21: Stallions 43 – 40½ BtB
Stafford’s attack on the top two begins with BtB. Four straight wins for the team in second, three in a row for their opponents. There was only 2½ points between the pair last time they met.
Both also face League Two opposition in the Cup next weekend (albeit their opponents are 1st and 9th).

🙅 Whitewash Watch 🔎 Before GW30:
Stafford Stallions 3-0 vs. Bigger than Brolin; first season in same league
Whiskey De Bruyne 3-0 vs. Toastenham Hankdog; first season in same league. GW12: WDB won by 78 FPts (95½-17½).

Form:

League Two

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
• Bigo1 finally get the result they wanted, not so much the fourth straight win over Team Zizou (who, like Whiskey De Bruyne above, outscored their opponents 3-1), but the loss suffered Wood Wolves that opened the door to Second place.
• BVAR get their first win of the season over WWW and did it by a single point. Amazingly, Wolves also won 3-1 on Goals Scored (and had more SOT’s & more KP’s) but lost the game to a Matty Cash -3.
• FPL Daddy are now one of the most in-form teams in the BFFA (4W) and have the second-best FPts total ahead of a big six-pointer against the team above them – Wrockadine, who are just one point ahead in Third.

🙅 Whitewash Watch 🔎 After GW29:
Bigo1 4-0 vs. Team Zizou; first season in same league

The Run-in

There are FOUR matches featuring the top four (1v2, 1v3, 2v4 & 3v4) over the next three weeks. These will no doubt prove pivotal as we enter “DGW Season”. There will be quite a few players on blank gameweeks to navigate through (GW31 for one, maybe more), and Cup ties too (both FA Cup and BFFA Cup games to consider), but by time we get to GW33 the top four will be getting involved in a free-for-all for league wins and a race against time for final position. We don’t anticipate any turn-up-and-win situations, but losses from there on out will feel like big opportunities missed.

That run-in could also end well for AI-Jiggery-Pokery who, although may not be challenging for a promotion nor a return next season, could take their volunteer team to a higher finish with both ninth and tenth place to play in their final two. If they are still jostling with Team Zizou at that point, they might see TeeZee struggling against WWW and Bigo1 as the season wraps up.

And watch how BVAR fare over the next three weeks. Running on a 3-game win streak, their next triplet will put them against three of the bottom four, and nine league points could put them in the running for a promotion back to League One.

🫣 Next week’s One to Watch:
Wrockwardine Wood Wolves -v- FPL Daddy, 3rd v 4th
GW21: WWW 62 – 55½ Daddy
A critical game in the promotion race next weekend. They won’t meet again in the league after this, so whether the Wolves go to being four points above Daddy or two point behind will impact the top of the league dramatically.

🙅 Whitewash Watch 🔎 Before GW30:
Beedle’s Boys 3-0 vs. AI-Jiggery-Pokery; first season in same league. Last time, Boys won by 1 (57½-56½)
